A Small Topics: Asuka Temple
Nara is known as one of the ancient capitals of Japan.
Before the Heian period in Kyoto, the political center of Japan was located in the Asuka era.
First, I visited Asuka Village to experience the atmosphere of ancient Japan.
Asuka was the capital of Japan before the city of Heijo-kyo (present-day Nara) was established.
One of the most famous temples in this area is Asuka-dera Temple, also known as Ganko-ji Temple.
This temple houses the oldest Buddhist statue in Japan.
The construction of the temple was approved by the emperor in 587, after a request from
Soga no Umako, a powerful minister at the time.
The statue was created by the famous sculptor Kuratukuri no Tori (鞍作鳥).

The face of this Buddha statue looks quite different from many other well-known Buddhist statues in Japan.
I spent some quiet moments sitting in front of the statue.
It was a very calm and peaceful experience.
